Waiting is hard…

…especially waiting for Lemon! Sometimes he makes me wait long. Sometimes he makes me wait for no reason! Uffff!!! What do I do with this boy?

*** He says he will be home in 2 minutes. So, I wait for 5 minutes and call him to ask where he is. He says, “Oh! I’m filling gas in the car. I will be home in 5 minutes”. So, I wait for 10 minutes and call him back to check where he is. He says, “Oh! I’m on my way! 2 minutes!”.. So, I wait for 15 more minutes and get furious! I call him back to check where he is. And, he does not pick up!! He reaches home 20 minutes later.

*** I call for Lemon… “Lemon…!“. He says “Um“. I wait and I call again. “Lemon…”! He says “Umm“. I wait and I call again. “Lemon….”! He says nothing. So, I shout – “LEMON!”. He says “Ummm…”. I get furious. I expect him to look at me when I call. I expect him to come wherever I am after I call. Is this too much of an expectation? I don’t think so.

*** He says he will go down and get me some water. So, I wait for his help. After 10 minutes, I ask him for water again. He says, “Yes I will go get it“. So, I wait. After 10 more minutes, I ask him and he says, “I am going now“. After 5 more minutes I get furious and go get water myself!!

*** He says he will go pick up kids from after-school program around 4:30 PM. So, I call him at 4:20 to remind him.. He says, “Yes, I am finishing up some office work.. I will go at 4:30!“. After 20 minutes, I call him to check if he is on his way. He says, he will go in another few minutes! So, I wait. I call him around 5:15 to check if he picked up the kids. He says he is just starting!! He reaches so late that sometimes Lime and Lily are the last to get picked up!

Till date, Lemon has never done something as soon as I tell him. He needs to be reminded at least 10 times (yes 10! sometimes even more!!). These may be such petty examples but it makes me wonder if all people in relationships are just like us. To what extent do you remind your better half’s to do something for you?

I know Lemon is never going to change but my views are here to stay!

Hey Sunlight!

It has been a while since I saw you. This morning, I stood next to my window, sipping my hot coffee and was determined to find you. I looked from windows in my living room, my dining room, my kitchen and my deck. But nope, you were nowhere to be found!! I only saw deserted streets! Not a soul in sight and it was a gloomy grey day! So, it is official – you are missing (again!)!

There are times when you have made my day soooo beautiful! I remember the days when you flooded my house with sunlight. Amma, patti and I would lay the vadams one row after another in plastic sheets. We will feel your warmth on our skin, and all traces of our sorrow will be washed away in your golden light!

There are also times when you have made me spend a lot of money on sunscreen! I remember the days when I was at the beach. You made me shift from one shady spot to another/change the direction of my umbrella from 30′ to 45′ to 90′. I hated you!

… And then there are times when you make me feel sad. I can barely get by when you are not around. It is in the absence of something we realize how important it is. Right? Ain’t this human habit? They also say seasonal depression settles in when you don’t show up for more than a week. You make the human body lack Vitamin D and health issues strikes us for real.

So why am I talking so much about you today you ask? Because Lemon bought me vitamin D tablets! He was giving me a lecture on how important vitamin D is and it only made me realize how important you are in my life! So, all I want now is for you to save me from the bite of cold winds. I want you to fill my home with your golden light and let us all be happy once again!

Lemon’s Tea

I am beginning to smell it. And I can’t stop smiling.

For the first time in many years, Lemon is in the kitchen making tea for me. It’s been a while since he had made something special just for me you know.

He is doing it today because I am feeling no good. Down with throat pain and bad cold. And Lily still has fever.

All this means I spent most of today in the bed. With my phone, water bottle, Tylenol and Vick’s next to me.

I hate sick days. Taking hot showers. Being a couch potato. Abundant sleep. Body aches and more throat pain. Sigh!

Tea. Lemon followed some online recipe to make it. It was awesome but for the records, I didn’t tell him it was awesome! Otherwise he will get two horns and keep saying that he did this for me for the rest of our lives.

Here’s the cup

A letter to my husband on his birthday

Dear Lemon,

You are probably a little nervous about this letter now since I always like to be cheesy and as embarrassing as possible about you in my blog.  But do not worry. Today is your birthday so I will be a good wife and write only about what I like about you. I might have said the same things before but I think we all know by now that that’s kind of how I roll this blog. So, Ready? And go.

You are the heart of this blog. If it weren’t about you, I wouldn’t be here writing this post now.

Happy Birthday dear husband! You are the best! I hope you have a fantastic birthday today and you owe me a BIG treat this evening.

Loooooooooove,
Your wife!

6 Years!

Dear Lemon,

We complete 6 years of marriage today. We woke up this morning ready to celebrate million more years of togetherness.

I can’t believe it! 6 years! So long? 6 years and we are still growing strong together. 6 years and we are still very much in love. Seems like we got married just yesterday. Six years ago, on this date, we complained a lot about the make up, the number of costume changes, and the long long wait to tie the knot. At the end of it all it was all worth it. Took us sometime to realize that we were indeed husband and wife.

So many things have happened in these 6 years. Yet we are both the same people on the inside as we were the day we met in Skype.

Last year was big for us. But this year is going to be even more bigger. I see the house we have built together. It is still incomplete but is the perfect house in the whole world and the house makes me extremely happy.

We have not yet decided so many things for our future. We are yet to learn a lot about life. It all seems so crazy at the moment but I do hope all is going to be well.

Cheers to you my dear Lemon, you have been so nice to me this year.. And I love my anniversary gift. You are the bestest.

All with love, Lavender!

At 24

Dear Lemon,

Do you remember this pic? It was taken on the day of our wedding, during the oonjal ceremony. That moment when this pic was taken will always be special.

This was not a rehearsal. We were surrounded by our entire family, friends, the catering guys, the photographer, the video man and a zillion others.

We were actually sitting in the oonjal for almost an hour waiting for the actual wedding moment. It was so embarrassing to sit in the swing all dressed up in front of the big crowd. Even more embarrassing part was when people started singing, dancing and teasing us all the time. But you made me feel comfortable. By passing jokes about our very own people. Lol. I laughed. I smiled. I was shy. I was 24 and you were 28. We were pretty young and fearless during that time.

Onjall

I found this pic in our wedding album today. One of my favorites. Cheers to all the good old times and to all our future ones.

Lavender.

When I was 23

I met him!

First photo. First introduction. First talk. First meet. It all began when I was 23 and he was 27.

The relationship. The engagement and the commitment also happened then.

Below is our first pic together. In an auto rickshaw. He took me to a temple in the boring capital city.

That’s us again. In my dear city Chennai. At my home. Look at me – looking like a stupid teenage girl. And look at him in a stupid t shirt.

Every time we see these pics, we laugh. Err… No comments! Don’t ask me why.

And this does NOT happen everyday

Nothing else deserves to be here in my blog than this one today!

Lemon has a vacation day today and so he woke up early in the morning to cook lunch for me!! And, know what? It was delicious!

*somebody pinch me hard to believe its true*

Rasam and Potato curry!

After 12 AM

Dear Lemon,

If we’re at a friends house or anywhere else outside and I look at you questionably and roll my eyes and raise my eyebrows [in anger], it means I want to go home. It does not mean, I need you to come sit next to me. Last time, you saw me perform this drama, you came and sat next to me and continued chatting with friends for another 2 hours.  Errr…!!

You know I can only stay up until 11 PM. If I try hard, then may be until 12 AM or 12:30 AM.. but not beyond that. There were days when I stayed up all night just to chat with friends and others in my life. I cannot do it anymore, Lemon. Anything after 12 AM becomes a strain. I start getting uncomfortable. So, I demand you understand this and act accordingly next time !

– Your Wife!

29th!

This year for a change, Lemon FIRST wished me in LinkedIn instead of the traditional face-to-face, Facebook or twitter or even text message! Weird? Yes? No! 😉

We headed out to NY Friday evening. Little before 12 AM, Lemon took me to this beautiful place with a very nice New York Skyline view.

Who on earth would take their toddler boy and go out on a cold night? Uh? We did. And we weren’t alone. There was another couple there who just got engaged. The guy had just proposed to the girl and they had an ‘awww’ moment. We exchanges smiles and they were nice enough to even take a picture for us.

That’s my boys looking over NY Skyline!

After a good nights sleep in a nice hotel, we first went to the Bridge water temple in New Jersey. We did archanai and ate the awesome prasadam. Lime loved it too. For lunch, we went to Saravanna Bhavan and ate to our heart’s content. We went to a shopping mall next and I shopped. But not as much as I thought I would. Did not like it enough to do more shopping. But we definitely did have some fun.

Post my shopping spree, we headed out to Times square. The weather was perfect. Lime had a great time seeing Elmo, Cookie Monster, Elsa, Olaf, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pirates, Hello Kitty, Minion and all other Disney characters – you name it – They were all there!

That’s us with Lime’s favorite characters! 😉

Around 7 PM we went to Jersey City and had a fantabulous chaat-dinner. Yeah, Chaat! The plan was to eat something simple. And since we were so bored of rice and tiffin items, we chose chaat. Drinking masala chai at the end was a perfect combo! No complaints!

Bhel Puri, Raj Kachori and Burger!

The day wasn’t over yet. So, Lemon took me to the movies! We saw Nanbenda at a random theater in New Jersey and headed back to our hotel around 2 AM.

That’s Lime again – Enjoying the view! 😉

What more could I ask for – New York, Times square, Shopping , Indian food and Movies! It was just perfect. In the midst all these celebrations, I did remember that I am a grown-up. I’m no longer the child I used to be. Back at home, people appreciated every single thing I did in life. But today, as an adult, I’m expected to those things by myself. All these growing-up-stuff is a part of life – Yet, I struggle to embrace my adulthood. May be I’ll accept and realize that I am an adult someday soon. But that day is just Not today!

So, thanks to my dear husband – for all the love, care, support, fun and entertainment on my 29th! 🙂
